Lithuania has expanded its air defense investments by ordering a new battery of the MSHORAD system from Saab, under a contract estimated at US$154 million, with deliveries expected between 2026 and 2030.

The acquisition includes the full integration of the system into Oshkosh JLTV 4×4 vehicles, strengthening mobility and the protection of Lithuanian forces against aerial threats.

According to the Swedish manufacturer, the MSHORAD combines the Giraffe 1X radar, a command-and-control network via datalink, and a firing unit equipped with the RBS 70 NG missile. The system is designed to quickly detect, identify, and engage targets, even in environments with advanced countermeasures. Saab states that the system offers agile protection for units on the move.

This is Lithuania’s third order of the system, demonstrating the country’s commitment to strengthening its short-range air defense. The new battery complements other recent acquisitions and integrates with Vilnius’ military modernization strategy amid growing security concerns in the region.
